FEBRUARY 1ST: MPS CHECK IT OUT CHESS TOURNAMENT
 
LOCATION: North High School (1500 James Ave. N. Minneapolis. MN. 55411)
SCHEDULE (Times subject to change):

7:45am – 8:00am          Set-up and volunteer check-in
8:00am – 8:45am          Check-in for players 
8:45am – 9:00am          Players seated for round 1 (if a player arrives after this seating period, they will be able to join round 2)
9:00am – 9:15am          Welcome and rules
9:15am – 12:00pm        3-4 Rounds depending on time
12:00pm – 1:00pm        Lunch: Pizza, fruit or veggie, sweet treat
1:00pm – 2:30pm          2 Rounds
2:30pm – 3:00pm          Results and Awards Ceremony (Individual and Team awards)

TOURNAMENT RULES: Please review these with your player! They will also be read at the beginning of the tournament

  • If you know you will arrive late or need to leave early, notify the tournament director (Jiten) so we do not pair your player for any rounds you will miss. 
  • Touch move (touch your piece, you must move it), touch take (if you can capture an opponent’s piece, must take it)
  • Stick to your own board: no commenting on your neighbor’s game
  • Quiet and respectful: minimal noise
  • Raise your hand for questions: There are no silly questions! (checkmate, maneuver checks, or disputes etc.)
  • King cannot be taken: if you are in check, you have to get out of check
  • No kibbitzing: No outside comments/help – Parents/family/supporters are welcome to watch from the perimeter of the gym: Any interaction with your player should be saved for before or after the game each round
  • Clocks/timers will be brought out after about 15 minutes to keep the rounds moving. They will be set to 10 minutes, 5 minutes for each player.
