Weekend Tournaments Leading up to State

MNchess.org—

Hope everyone has stayed warm and safe now that Snowmageddon 2023 is behind us…it is still a bit chilly, but it is time to start warming up to the State Scholastic March 4th-5th.  In my effort to continue Buildings Bridges, Banishing Banishing Barriers, and Breaking Bread, here are some events leading up to the Scholastic:

While their main focus is responsible engagement in various forms, Utepils Brewing is a family friendly venue.  This weekend, they are releasing a beer aptly named “Czech Mate”.  Their Brewmeister is an enthusiast of the royal game and has been given the green light to produce a brew with a chess theme.  To celebrate its release, there will be a Czech Mate Blitz tournament this Sunday starting at 11am.  A food truck is set to arrive at 12, and Utepils does offer snacks and non-alcoholic options, and the Blitz will be open to all ages.

Have you been to the Chess Castle at its new location yet?  Well, why not!  A weekend tournament might be what you need to get ready for the Scholastic.  The February Think still has plenty of seats remaining so sign up and check out Southdale Mall while you are at it.

The Harambee Chess Club will start this Monday, and there is no cost to sign up.  This is for K-12 students and will be held at the East Lake Library in Minneapolis for their Winter session.  Youth of all playing skills are welcome, so stop by if you are curious.

If there are other chess events or clubs you are aware of, please let me know as I am happy to mention it.  Thank you for your time.
