Happy Chesstoberfest!

MNchess.org—

With a shocking exit from the Lynx and the Twins looking for a new manager as their seasons end, the Wolves and Wild will seek to bring a championship back to Minnesota. The Vikings…well, they are undefeated in London at least and can least flex on the Packers for beating the Browns…for now. It is relatively safe that one needs to take matters into their own hands to strive for glory like IM Samrug Narayanan, who won the MSCA Grand Prix, capping it off with a dominating 5-0 performance at the Northern Open. Best of luck to International Master Alice Lee, who will be competing in the US Women’s Championships and Grandmaster Wesley So playing in the US Championships, beginning on October 10th.

October is shaping up to be a month of championship events coming off the heels of the crowning of our Grand Prix winners. The inaugural MN Bughouse Championships will take place on Sunday the 12th. Not a US Chess member? Not a problem! With it being a chess variant, no memberships are needed to play.

The Quick Championships will take place the following weekend, on Saturday October 18th. This will be held for the second year in a row, and what looks to be an annual offering for years to come. This was a successful event last year with over 70 people participating.

Chesstober caps off with the MSCA Senior Championships, which is open to all 50 years of age and older. Side events will take place as well for all ages to compete in. Alongside this championship event will be the Spooky Swiss on October 25th-26th. This is targeted to those under 50. The second event will be Saturday-only Scary Blitz, open to all. This will take place in the evening, but the only thing scary about it is how much of a good time you will have being a part of it. This has been your Look Into October 2025, thank you for your time.
