A Look into June 2025 and also Ourselves

MNchess.org—

Congrats Class of 2025!

Congrats to those who had strong finishes at the Chicago Open1(100%).  Andrew Titus ties for 16th but more importantly earned an International Master Norm.  Sammy Narayanan who tied for 3rd was a half point shy of earning a Grandmaster Norm.  Sammy plans to carry this strong performance into the National Open this week where over 1300 people are signed up in total for the main events.  You will be able to view a number of games online, links will be up when available so be on the lookout for links and other various content such as GM Simuls and the Streamer Panel.  For those looking something a bit more local, there is the Blitz Championship.  I will conclude here, with your Look into June 2025.  You are more than welcome to stop here.  Or, you may continue reading.
Living that millennial life, my young mind became rather passionate about the environment and with that a strong, everlasting interest in science…While axioms like mitochondria is the powerhouse of the cell are being expressed in classrooms today, terms like acid rain and ozone hole are not mentioned as frequently anymore.  Due to advancements in science and the pursuit of knowledge, these hazards have been greatly reduced.  While there are other perils that will impact our aquatic environment and access to fresh water, the more we can invest in science, the better we can be better.

Our physical environment is one thing, we cannot ignore our social environment.  Polluted thoughts lead to clouds brimming of hate.  Acrid drops pelleting down and eroding our foundations. As communication and searching for truth breaks down, resentment accumulates, dammed up.  Only to burst like it did five years ago.  But this certainly isn’t the first time.  Will it be the last…I do not know.

What I do know is that removing a toxic source does not mean the river runs pure and pristine.  Microplastics and microaggressions with every sip I bring to my lips.  Clear is not always clean, but I wish to have a drink someday where that is the case.  Power and privilege foster new sources to propagate, allowing the same habits to perpetuate.  Channels of communication are needed if we want to the break the cycle.

Change has occurred in the last five years, but not enough for some.  Change is often fleeting as it fails to be maintained.  Growth is the result of sustained change over time, accepting and adapting to new information towards continuous improvement.   Change is linear whereas growth operates on a broader spectrum.  I believe there is more room for change and growth, and I have faith that it will happen with more time.
