As the year concludes, many things begin. Can we begin to see the first woman elected into the Minnesota Chess Hall of Fame? For many youth, the first exposure one may have had to regular tournament chess was the School Chess Association, run by the Lampert family. Since Larry’s passing in 2007, the SCA has survived by his wife Lorene Lampert and has run it ever since. While Larry has been inducted in the Hall of Fame, Lorene has not which should be reconsidered by the forces at be.
There are now other venues people can experience their first tournament, but we should all be grateful for what Lorene has been able to do for the chess community. Their next event is this Saturday, holding a Scholastic Grade Level in Burnsville. In addition to an individual event, this is also a team based event, based on the school you attend. Thank you, Lorene
This Sunday, the Chess Castle will begin their second Scholastic Grand Prix with last months event bringing in over 20 people. Did I also mention that Chess Castle is located at Southdale Mall, and the first round does not start until 12? This is a dream come true…there could not be a better way to get a delightful brunch in, do some holiday shopping, and get started on mailing out your Seasons Greetings letters!
As a reminder, the Burnsville Club and Action takes place on the 14th, and for those that went to the tournament description, you may have noticed something else as well and curious about the URL. For reasons I do not plan to elaborate on at the present time, I have not really promoted it as much as I would like to, but a time for that will come soon. Does that mean an email will come where I get on a soapbox and just spew off random ramblings…please refrain from asking questions you already know the answer to 🙂
Thank you all, this has been your Look Into December 2024, Part 2. Thank you for your time.
