***In honor of the memory of Lawrence Lampert, founder of the School Chess Association, the Statewide Tournament now includes an annual “open section” for players’ grade 7 through 12 and adult. Parents are invited and encouraged to enter the “open section”. The entry fee for the “open section” will be applied to the Lawrence Lampert Memorial Chess Scholarship fund.

AWARDS – SCA awards trophy prizes typically to the top five players in each section (K-3, 4-6, 7-9) and a novice trophy in our standard tournaments. Rated section trophies depend on the number of players in that section. Tie breakers are used if there is a tie in all sections. Tournament cancellations announced on the SCA web site and through WCCO radio. Concessions will be available at all tournaments.
Bring a CHESS SET, PENCIL, NOTATION PAPER, and a clock (if available) to all tournaments. Limited number of chess sets will be available. At door registration is from 8:00 – 8:30 a.m. Players who arrive after 8:30 a.m. will not be paired in the 1st round, unless preregistered and pre-paid. If pre-registered and pre-paid, player must arrive by 9:00 a.m.
